Mexico missions trip

So i am going to try and start blogging again, not really my thing but i'll try :) and just so people know it's been over a year since I last posted.
On March 21 2009 75 studants and leaders from my church, Bow Valley Christian Church, flew to the Los Angelas airport and from there drove 6 15 passenger vans to Tijuana, Mexico (My youth pastor said Rosarito but i'm not convinced that we actually went there). Over a 5 day period we built 5 houses in the poorest part of Tijuana for 5 families.
Most people think that the language barrier is a problem but it wasn't. We used the words we knew (which wasn't much) but mostly we just laughed and used our hands or pointed at something and asked a local. It was an awesome experience to learn more about Mexicans, building houses and each other.

Chicks & Butterfly

4 Weeks ago we started incubating chicken eggs, and on Tuesday, May 20th all but 3 hatched (exactly 3 weeks from when we started incubating them), those 3 didn't make it. Their were 5 black ones, 3 brown ones and the rest were yellow chicks (21 in total). After the chicks were dry we moved them from the incubator to a big cage in our living room where they spent the following week. They are so cute, and very a interesting to watch. On their fist day out of their egg they learn how to walk, so they would take a few steps on wobbly lags and then lay down as a pancake (as my brother calls it) for a few minuets before trying again. They are almost always walking around and they always take the way with all the chicks and just plow through. When they sleep they huddle together and sometimes a chick will decides he wants to be in the middle of that huddle so he'll jump right in the middle of it. When they were about 5 days old they started trying to fly, it's very funny to watch, they would fly from one side of the cage to the other and most likely land on another chick. Last Tuesday they had to go home, it was sad to see them go.

During that time we also had a caterpillar, who started out 1cm long and ended up 1 1/2" long. On May 10th it turned into a chrysalis and turned into and butterfly on May 19th. We didn't actually get to see it come out of it's chrysalis but it was amazing to see how a not so pretty caterpillar turned into a beautiful butterfly.

Limerick

"A little girl named Lee
Said, "I can see the sea!"
"See there is a sea gull,
And the rocks are never dull!'
Looking at the sea,
There was a girl named Lee.

Riddles

A man I am not,
Although on my back there’s a dot.
I spread my wings to fly;
If you step on me I’ll die.
When I feel threatened I pee,
So make sure you don’t trap me!
Right now you might be saying, “Ugg!”
But I think you know I’m a _ _ _ _ _ _ _!

Flying across the sky
In search for flowers, I try.
Now I’m covered in pollen,
And I hear others a callin’!
My Queen has much pride and glee,
And that’s because I’m a honey _ _ _!

(answers: Ladybug, bee)

Venn poem

Summer is my favorite season,
It is always so hot and cheery,
We swim until we're done,
Around the firepit we sit to tell a story.

Missions trip to Pine Lake Christian Camp

Last week (March 27-29) my youth group went on a missions trip to our church camp Pine Lake Christian Camp. We painted bathrooms from pink to beige, chopped TONS of wood (three wood sheds full), made benches for around the fire, and cleared fallen trees and brush from the path and burned it. We had a fire going pretty much all day every day we were there. It got very hot, you could feel it from 10-15 feet a way! We also had lots of fun, not just working, at night we played games watched movies and talked. This trip was a sort of preparation for next years mission trip when we go to Mexico for all of next years spring brake and the weekends surrounding it to build a house. I am very excited.
